Photography is not just a means of documenting what is significant in our lives; it is also a means of clarifying and improving ideas.

Our area of focus is informal settlements in Damascus, including the external constructions and internal designs of dwellings and amenities, and it extends beyond this to observe life in the spaces it defines.

The digital image revolution, as well as the methods of transmitting, distributing, and disseminating it through new media technologies, enables many enthusiasts and professionals to play an essential part in serving key cultural or societal ideals. As the image has grown in importance in the media and cultural debate. On the other hand, photography in the architectural field is the most popular method for capturing buildings, events, and life since it does not require specialized photographic equipment and photos can be shot with any camera, whatever it is, using a standard lens. You may also use a smartphone camera for this purpose.

The workshop aimed to raise participants' understanding of the research topic in terms of the relevance of observing in general in the architectural sector, and in particular informal settlements, which is seen as a unique and rich study case.
