Inhabitants of informal settlements tend to adjust open private spaces like the balcony to be more intimate and isolated, due to multiple reasons including theft and the lack of privacy in these settings, making it safer and more independent. As in the ground floor people tend to install metal protection reaching the ceiling, which can be accessed from the outside through a metal door. Making a barrier between spaces but at the same time not effecting sun and ventilation. In the middle and top floors people tend to install a canopy or a hanging rag like a curtain. In terraces represented by the roofs, a metal or bamboo frame is placed to carry the rag.
